Fire Extinguisher Recycling Program

PMC Australia are an environmentally conscious company. We continually venture to reduce our environmental footprint where possible. We cater for companies who require removal of the old fire extinguishers. These are fire extinguishers which may have been used or are at the end of the five yearly cycle. This is the AS1851 requirement, for the pressure test and recharge for fire extinguishers.

Recycling of Fire Extinguishers
PMC Australia collect the old fire extinguishers from site and road freight these to our wholesalers. Our wholesalers then dispose of these with specific recyclers. Everything that can be recycled from the fire extinguishers, is used by the recyclers. At PMC Australia, we utilise our wholesalers nationwide to provide the correct and best ecological recycling procedure.

  1. Dry Chemical ABE Powder

This is the most common fire extinguisher medium and would make up over 60% of the fire extinguishers in the Australian market. The main ingredient in ABE powder is Monoammonium phosphate. This is a natural occurring substance and is a major ingredient of agricultural fertilizers. Made from two constituents common in the fertilizer industry, Phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N). Our wholesalers source the ABE powder, to be reused as fertiliser, in different industries.

  2. Foam and Wet Chemical

The contents emptied into drums and sent to accredited waste chemical companies. The metal which is stainless steel and brass, to be recycled.

  3. CO2

These are recycled for the metal content, aluminum, brass, and stainless steel, is recycled. One recycler makes dry ice from the contents of the CO2.
